I took my big baby bird and a wee chum to the cinema recently to watch Ugly Dolls. I’ll not spoil it for anyone but like most family movies it’s a lovely heartwarming story that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. The music was awesome with some massive names in the cast list. But there was one song that really made me smile – it felt like the Lord was speaking directly to me, reminding me that the world may break me but it’s ok to not be ok sometimes as long as we remember to hold on tight until we can see the beauty within us. Helen Keller put it beautifully when she said…
Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it.
There are some days I feel like Superwoman, there are days I want someone to just hold me & tell me everything is going to be ok. Then there are days I see the pain of others and wish I could reach out and remind them how beautiful they are but don’t we still find it so awkward to talk about mental health?!
I worry that people will think I’m weak, and on the other hand I worry I’ll say the wrong thing to someone who is experiencing difficulties as the battles are so personal and so unique for each one of us.
We’re walking on the ocean, turning water into wine
We bury our emotion and pretend that we’re just fine
The only way to live now is to know you’re gonna fly
Don’t listen to the lying liars and their lies
We can’t just snap out of it – please don’t ever tell anyone to do that! People need to be reminded how important they are and how loved they are. And even if there is no one physically there for you please remember you are so loved…
““What is the value of your soul to God? Could your worth be defined by an amount of money? God doesn’t abandon or forget even the small sparrow he has made. How then could he forget or abandon you? What about the seemingly minor issues of your life? Do they matter to God? Of course they do! So you never need to worry, for you are more valuable to God than anything else in this world.”
Luke 12:6-7 TPT
Today, on Suicide Prevention Day I urge you to remember how beautiful you are – don’t listen to the lies inside your head that constantly make you doubt yourself. Remember you’re phenomenal – you are enough! You are valuable to God and he has his eye on you – he is watching over every step you take – even when you don’t think it possible he is there with his miraculous love.
Reach out, even if it’s only to ask someone to sit beside you or hold your hand. Text that last friend who you lied to when they asked how you are and you replied with the polite answer instead of the truth. Grab a coffee with that work colleague who you can trust and offload to. Or take some time out for yourself to have some “me time” or alone time with God.
Find the thing that helps you overcome and cling to the truth that you may be broken but you’re still beautiful in the eyes of God!
