Isn’t God’s creation amazing?! Today I harvested my first batch of mint from our garden to make an Amsterdam inspired tea. Since we moved into our forever home with its lovely mucky garden I’ve wanted to grow veg but I simply don’t have time. On a recent visit to a local garden centre I spotted some mint plants & thought maybe that wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for me. To be fair all I did was pick a good spot & nature did the rest. As I enjoyed my lovely mint infused drink this AM it got me thinking about how badly we treat the Earth that God created for us. For me the amazingness (is that even a word?! It is now!) of how our planet works is evidence enough that God exists – I refuse to believe that it was an accident or a “Big Bang”.
Does anyone else find it hard to read the first chapter of a book?! It’s make or break for me, I have so many books on my kindle that will forever be bookmarked at chapter 2. But the first chapter of my favourite book is a real attention grabber. It outlines the planning, preparation & creation of our planet – we don’t have to wait until the New Testament to see how much love God has for us. It’s there in Genesis 1 in the care and thought that went into every detail.
God looked over everything he had made; it was so good, so very good!
Genesis 1:31 MSG
When I look at my big girl’s room and it’s an absolute mess (most days!) I feel really let down and annoyed – we’ve created the loveliest space for her but she doesn’t respect it enough to keep it tidy. She loves making huts & playing with her toys too much to worry about tidying up after herself. I imagine that’s how God looks at what we’re doing to the world. He has given us such an amazing space that can give us all we need but we’ve been making a bit of a mess of it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no eco warrior yet but I am starting to think more about how I can do my little bit for the environment… Trying not to buy plastic bags, investing in reusable packs for the kids snacks, moving to paper sandwich bags & more eco friendly products for the house but there’s so much to learn.
