Joy

We’ve been doing a study of Revelation in our Tribe Tuesday sessions at church the last couple of months and I’ve really enjoyed getting my teeth into what can sometimes be a daunting book.

Part of the study involved the seven letters to the seven churches – finishing with the church of Laodicea…

“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:15-17

Isn’t this just like the “church” today?! The world is in pain, at war, searching for the meaning of life and let’s face it a lot of us are sitting around sipping cups of tea and enjoying fellowship with our church chums.

Isn’t it time we got the fire back in our bones, got the proverbial megaphone out and spread the joy and love that comes when we give our lives to serve the one who died and rose again?!

Oh, hear my prayer tonight, I’m singing to the sky
Give me strength to raise my voice, let me testify
Oh, hear my prayer tonight, ’cause this is do or die
The time has come to make a choice
And I choose joy
Let it move you, let it move you, let it move you

Today I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone, choose joy and let it move you to become more fired up and less lukewarm. What can you do this week to ensure you don’t fall into the trap of the church of  Laodicea?

Love is Action

I know some people who weren’t impressed by Bishop Curry’s address at last weekend’s Royal Wedding at Windsor Castle. Personally – I loved it and thought it was awesome – exactly what the world needs to hear!

Someone once said that Jesus began the most revolutionary movement in human history.

A movement grounded in the unconditional love of God for the world – and a movement mandating people to live that love, and in so doing to change not only their lives but the very life of the world itself.

The world likes to think itself romantic – love is a word that is overused and underappreciated. That so-called “Love” Island show is set to start again on TV in the next few weeks – and let’s be honest, it’s nothing to do with love and everything to do with lust and animal attraction. (I’ll say no more about that for now!)

So what does love mean to you? Have you thought about accepting the mandate and continuing on the movement – sharing the love that God presented to us as his Son bled and died for us on the cross? How can you demonstrate and share the unconditional love of our Constant Friend?

I’m ready for action – are you?!

When we Pray..

Last weekend we hosted a prayer breakfast in our church for four local churches. It was an awesome morning and it was a real reminder to me that prayer is such an important and powerful aspect of our journey through life with our Constant Friend. I won’t get to into the politics of it but our wee country is in a political stalemate – and it breaks my heart to think that we are powerless to do anything. But on Saturday it occurred to me that we’re not powerless – in fact we have the most amazingly powerful tool that God has given us – a direct dial line to him… PRAYER!

All the world starts changing
When the church starts praying
Strongholds start to break

So I’ve made a decision to stop complaining about the lack of Executive at Stormont and instead do something about it – by praying every day for the leaders and influencers who can make a change and fix the situation we find ourselves in. I pray the Lord will guide the politicians, give them the words to do good and to build a better future for all of us. Anyone with me?

Then I think about our friends in India building their Angel House so that they can house and raise children in need and I think of all the horrible news reports from India I’ve seen recently about little children being murdered and abused. The work of the Angel House team is so important to their community and we should support it in every way we can but I know a very crucial thing I can do every day to make a difference from the comfort of my safe life here in Norn Iron… PRAY!

I look at my girls every day and I worry about them growing up in a world filled with bullies and wickedness. I can’t be with them all day every day so I remind myself of the goodness in the world, the love and compassion of so many and I urge everyone to pray that love will win every time. Our children are the future – they need our protection and most importantly our PRAYERS!

Wouldn’t Change a Thing Wednesday

I was sitting in work earlier talking to one of my colleagues about the bake sale at Aimee’s nursery this morning to raise money for Mencap (fabulous charity that does great work in our community) as I’d bought some buns for the office. We were having a nice chat but my general mood wasn’t great if I’m honest and I wasn’t feeling 100%. Then he mentioned this video and sent me the link! Well it took all I had not to weep at my desk while watching it. It’s one of the most beautiful and inspirational videos I’ve seen in a long time and I have to admit I was chuckling a little at the way the kids were climbing all over the place – it reminded me of my little rascals and their inability to sit still for 5 minutes!

(A little aside: Listening to the song they’re singing while trying not to gurn my eyes out – made me think of our Constant Friend who has literally loved us for thousands of years and will love us for a thousand more.)

So today instead of Worship Wednesday I’m making it Wouldn’t Change a Thing Wednesday …
